Monday!

We're having a Test!

You'll need to have read 35-75 in Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress. I'd make sure that you know details and have read carefully- I'm likely to ask pointed questions, and we'll be covering 40 pages in 30 questions.

As before, you may bring in a single 3" x 5" index card. You may write on both sides, but it must be in your own hand (not printed off a computer).

Also, there will be a vocab quiz on Tuesday covering Unit 13.

Have a great weekend.

For the rest of the week...

For Wednesday: Read 35-41 in BLCS.

For Thursday: Read 46-55 in BLCS.

For Friday: Read 56-65 in BLCS.

We'll be talking about themes, ideas, answering questions and so forth in class.

Expect another quiz/test on Monday covering at least 35-65. As before, you'll be allowed a single 3"x5" index card, so you may consider what you'll be including on that.

That's all.

Vacation time...

...and here's the homework:

Read Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress, pages 3-34.

That's it. I'd expect a quiz on that portion, though, on... say... Tuesday.

Have a nice break.

...and also...

You'll be reading chapter 14 (pages 129-135) tonight in Things Fall Apart. If I were you, I'd expect a closed-book quiz tomorrow. It will be confined in scope to only chapter 14- but read carefully, as the questions will deal with some details of the chapter.

Good Luck!

Back to Things Falling Apart...

This week, while I storm through your first drafts, we'll be working on Things Fall Apart in class. Please, make every effort to bring your book with you.

For tomorrow, finish reading chapter 9, and come prepared with a golden line- you don't need to explain it; you only need to have picked out the line.

Given today's performance on Vocab, I'd expect quite a few of you to be retaking the quiz.

Here's something to share with folks.

For Monday the 17th...

...we'll be having a Vocab Quiz on Unit 10.

Flashcards will be due.

For a long-range forecast:

I'm hoping to get your first drafts back to you by next week- likely Thursday, though this may float out to Monday, given that we're not in school on Friday.

That means that the final draft of your term paper (intro, bio, poem #1, poem #2, conclusion, and bibliographies) are going to be due either March 28th or March 31st.
We'll be working on vocab (unit 11) and Things Fall Apart all this coming week, so please be prepared and bring your books with you. Between the 20th of March and the final draft of your paper being due, I won't be assigning any daily homework- I expect you to be using this time to work on your paper.

Have a safe weekend.

Just a quick update...

Your second poem explication is due, as I have said before, this Friday, the 14th of March. We will be in the writing lab Thursday (rm 205). This time is likely to be the last time you have with me before you hand in the explication, so coming with questions/idea/worries is a good idea.

I'm making my way through your Bio's and Explication #1. I hope to get those back to you sooner rather than later.

The Vocab Quiz for Unit 10 will be on Monday, the 17th. Flashcards will be due.

Good luck!

It's a long weekend, so I'm sure...

...you're all checking this blog with great interest.

Whatever. I'm over it.

Just a little reminder that you're second explication is due this coming Friday, the 14th. Best of luck on that.
In the meantime, here's something completely unrelated to anything. Enjoy.

While reading some blogs...

... I stumbled across this article in the LA Times about the book we're reading, Things Fall Apart.

You can read it here.

Once again, we're in the Writing Lab today for class, working on Explications of your first poem, a first draft of which is due Friday the 7th.

Explications of the second poem are due Friday the 14th. Please note that we only meet three times next week- plan you ability to ask me questions accordingly.

In the lab.

We're in the computer lab today (and tomorrow), working on your explications of your first poem.

These (first drafts) are due Friday the 7th.

Next Friday (the 14th) the explication of your second poem is due.

Also, we'll be done with Vocab Unit 10 in the none-to-distant future. As such, I thought I might pass on this useful nugget for those of you that hate making flashcards- maybe it helps?
